Councillor Darrell Mawle with Shop Owner Jasbir Kaur

Local Lib Dem Councillor, Darrell Mawle, got involved when the Post Office closed in Hazelslade. Good news...the Post Office is now open. Well done to all those involved in the campaign to get it reopened.

Following the resignation of the Sub Post Mistress early on in January, the Post Office had to suddenly close. Shop owners Jasbir Kaur & Santok Singh were left high and dry with Royal Mail saying a replacement could take as long as 6 to 7 weeks. This was clearly an unacceptable situation with so many vulnerable and needy people relying on this essential service at a time of year when travelling elsewhere in terrible weather conditions was not an option.

Due to the concerted action from the owners, members of the community and your Lib Dem Councillor Darrell Mawle, a successful outcome was achieved when a temporary Sub Post Mistress was found to fill the gap before a permanent appointment is made. Well done to everybody involved.
